Slicer
From model to machine, without leaving STEAM Machines.
Pick a printer, pick a material, slice. Load an image, set a power, engrave. Photograph a real object, get a model. The Slicer is the same open-source engines the community trusts — OrcaSlicer for printers, LaserWeb's raster engine and svg2gcode for lasers, COLMAP and OpenMVS for scanning — behind one STEAM Machines page, running on your own computer in the desktop app.
Print Slicer
Every printer and filament profile OrcaSlicer knows — 64 vendors — plus the settings that matter on one panel: layer height, infill, walls, supports, brim. Slice, read the time and filament estimate, preview the toolpaths layer by layer, save the G-code.

Laser Studio
Engrave a photo or logo — width, beam size, speed, power, dithering — or cut an SVG with passes and power per job. GRBL-style G-code for diode and CO₂ engravers, previewed before you save it.

3D Scanner
Photos or a video of a real object in, a clean, watertight, millimetre-true 3D model out, in its own viewport — COLMAP places the photos, OpenMVS builds the surface, MeshFix, MeshLab and Manifold make it sound, a printed scale bar sets the size. Save it as STL, OBJ, PLY or GLB; one button sends it to the Print Slicer if you want to print it.

What is under the hood
The engines are open-source projects, forked so STEAM Machines can carry its own fixes and pinned to exact builds so a slice is repeatable. The desktop app runs each one as a separate program on your computer; nothing you slice leaves it.
OrcaSlicer
AGPL-3.03D-print slicing — STL, OBJ, 3MF and STEP to G-code, with every vendor profile Orca ships
svg2gcode
MITLaser cutting and vector engraving from SVG
lw.raster-to-gcode
MITLaser raster engraving from photos and images
COLMAP
BSD-3-Clause3D scanning — works out where every photo was taken from (structure from motion), the first half of the scanner
OpenMVS
AGPL-3.03D scanning — the dense surface and mesh from the camera solve, on any processor
MeshFix · MeshLab · Manifold
GPL-3.0 / GPL-3.0 / Apache-2.03D scanning — the repair: watertight, tidy, checked; with trimesh, OpenCV and pillow-heif, in a pinned Python environment
